The FSC, Forest Stewardship Council, is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization created to promote responsible forest management around the world.
Founded in 1993 in response to concerns about global deforestation, the FSC is a pioneering forum that brings together voices from both the North and the South to define environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically viable forest management and identify tools and resources. that promote positive and lasting change in forests and the peoples who inhabit them.
Through its certification system, the FSC seal recognizes the responsible production of forest products, allowing consumers and companies to make informed purchasing decisions, benefiting people and the environment, as well as adding value to the business.
FSC is headquartered in Bonn, Germany, and is represented nationally in over 70 countries around the world.
In Brazil, since 1996, a working group began to articulate decisions around the FSC, an initiative that was formalized in 2001 with the Brazilian Forest Management Council (FSC Brasil).
